There is no single piece of legislation which specifically protect online shoppers in Hong Kong. The rights of online shoppers are currently protected by various laws in Hong Kong which include :
1) Electronic Transactions Ordinance (Cap. 553)
2) Sale of Goods Ordinance (Cap. 26)
3) Control of Exemption Clauses Ordinance (Cap. 71)
4) Supply of Services (Implied Terms) Ordinance (Cap. 457)
5) Unconscionable Contracts Ordinance (Cap. 458)
6) Trade Descriptions Ordinance (Cap. 362) enforced by the Customs & Excise Department which prohibits common unfair trade practices, including false trade descriptions and misleading omissions.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, online business owners which give any false or misleading product information to consumers may commit an offence.
